Well we moved again and we are really happy about it. This place has everything: a great location, hardwood floors, tall ceilings, a washer and dryer, and an extremely nice landlord. We found a diamond in the rough! Or, because the place was so awesome to begin with, and for a more accurate metaphor, we found a diamond!
Who’s got a gigantic living room with huge windows? We do!
Here’s the view from the opposite end of the living room. That “desk” is totally makeshift and we’ve got our eyes on craigslist for a better one. Isn’t the “fireplace” pretty sweet? (The place where you would have burned wood is covered up because of county code: “The National 24-Hour Particulate Standard (PM2.5) is threatened in the winter season when temperature inversions trap air pollution to the valley floors. The main source of winter pollution comes from residential woodstoves and fireplaces.”)
Our bedroom. We each have our own closet! I feel like I’m living in a movie star’s house or something! A movie star’s house with excessive wood paneling, but still.
Here’s the best picture I could find of the kitchen. We got that red table at an auction and it was the most thrilling purchase Tony and I have ever made. The blinds usually look a little less haphazard, I swear.
In the spirit of tradition, I made another architectural drawing of the place. I am really getting better at these. Hire me someday, Kristina?
One thing you might notice in this drawing is that the washing machine is in the kitchen. At first Tony and I were skeptical, but we’ve come to see its utility: spill spaghetti sauce all over yourself while cooking? Just throw the clothes in the washing machine from where you’re standing!
Another thing you may notice is that this place is seriously huge. In addition to the whole main floor, we’ve also got a ton of private basement space, a portion of which I’ve made into a craft room for sewing, art-making, and general quiet-time fun. If I know you, please consider this an invitation to come visit; we have more than enough room for you!

Whoa, your apartment looks HUGE and cool. But your bed is so tiny! I like it.
We do have a tiny bed. It is a double/full. Someday we will get a california king and we will finally sleep comfortably.

Congrats! It looks awesome. Happy to see the BlahBlah pillowcase!
What do you do with a closed up fireplace? It looks very classy and cozy, and the mantle can serve as a nice shelf. Any plans for the blocked off part? It seems like the big closed-off hole is an opportunity to direct everyone’s attention at something unexpected (or, at least unexpectedly not a fire). Any plans?
My ideas, in my current sleep-deprived state: a baby playing a toy piano, a beautiful aquarium, a huge ant farm, a single raisin, a dog bed (for your new adorable tired puppy).
Actually I have thought of something cool for that space! My work friend keeps “pinning” all of these pictures of awesome bar carts on pinterest and I’ve started thinking it could be really cool to have a bar cart in that area with more neat/pretty bottles on the mantle. Here are some examples:
One problem is I don’t really like drinking that much. Another problem is that once I told Tony that idea he decided we should just make a real, functioning bar on that side of the room. We’re at a bit of an impasse.
I *really* like the ant farm idea.
Not liking booze is actually a plus! You can buy fancy bottles and just keep’em forever. The last time I saw a cool bar cart in someone’s house, it was all like half an inch of vodka and 2 inches of whiskey in the bottoms of bottles and it just made me think, “Geez, you guys drink A LOT.” If the bottles were full I would have thought, “Geez, you guys are so classy! You drink a reasonable amount, and that makes me trust you.”
The old “lure them in by making them trust you”, eh? I may need to try it.

dope! we want to see it irl.
This looks great! And huge! Happy for you guys. I especially like the dark wood trim around all the windows and doorways. It looks really classy. And are the ceilings really high too, or is that just an illusion in the photos? Anyway, your place looks great.
They *are* really high, even for Tony!
This is ENORMOUS! So exciting! Are you approaching the number of apartments Kelly lived in while in Missoula?
Also, from my professional architectural opinion, that is a great drawing. I do have a question, though. Are the fridge, counter, and washing machine in the kitchen really that much deeper than they are wide? I’m guessing not, but I’d like everyone to imagine how cool that could be. Actually, I guess only Tony’s long arms could reach into the back of the fridge then. But you could fit so much on the counter!
They are not, unfortunately. We could fit 6 or 8 toilets on that counter! Although my drawings are improving, I still need some real help with scale.
